The Vow of Pursuit Devotional

5 Day Devotional

This five day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, February 23. We will explore the theme of intentional pursuit in relationships and how this can rejuvenate our marriages, emphasizing the importance of making our spouse a priority.

Day 1

Scripture: Proverbs 5:18-19

Pursuit is not merely an initial phase of romance; it is a lifelong commitment that requires intentionality and effort. The passage in Proverbs reminds us that our enjoyment in marriage should stem from our own partners, encouraging us to invest time and energy into fostering that connection. As we reflect on this scripture, let us remind ourselves to delight in our spouses, recognizing the beauty of our shared journey.

  • What are some specific ways I can intentionally pursue my spouse this week?

  • How do I define joy in my marriage, and how can I create more of it?

  • Am I currently taking my spouse for granted? How can I change that?

Pray for your heart to be open to recognizing your spouse's needs. Ask God for guidance on how to reignite joy in your relationship.

Day 2

Scripture: Song of Songs 7:1-2

The poetic expressions found in Song of Songs offer an insightful glimpse into the beauty of love and desire. Here, the importance of recognizing and appreciating our spouse's unique qualities is highlighted. Just as Solomon admires his beloved's physical attributes, we are encouraged to be present and attentive, seeking to understand and cherish our partners deeply.

  • What unique attributes of my spouse do I appreciate the most?

  • How can I verbalize my admiration and love to my partner more often?

  • What distractions prevent me from fully appreciating my spouse?

Reflect on the beauty you see in your partner and thank God for those qualities. Pray for a renewed sense of appreciation in your relationship.

Day 3

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is more than just a feeling; it's a choice we make every day. In this passage, we are reminded that love is patient and kind, reflecting a commitment to pursue one another. The pursuit of love isn't about grand gestures alone, but rather the daily choices that define our relationships and build a strong foundation for intimacy. In what areas are you currently struggling to love your spouse as described in this passage?

  • How can I demonstrate patience and kindness in my relationship today?

  • What small actions can I take to reaffirm my love for my spouse?

  • In what ways can I improve my communication with my partner?

Pray for wisdom in making loving choices daily. Ask God to help you recognize opportunities to show love in practical ways.

Day 4

Scripture: Ephesians 5:25

Paul’s exhortation to husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church beautifully encapsulates the concept of sacrificial love. This kind of love is active and intentional, demonstrating the importance of pursuing our spouse with the same fervor as we first did. By embodying this selfless love, we set the stage for a thriving marital relationship.

  • How can I emulate Christ's love in my marriage?

  • What sacrifices am I willing to make for my spouse's happiness?

  • Are there acts of service I can offer to my spouse this week?

Pray for the strength to love your spouse selflessly. Reflect on how Christ's love for us can inform your relationship.

Day 5

Scripture: Matthew 7:7

Jesus teaches us about the importance of asking, seeking, and knocking—a beautiful reminder that pursuing our spouse requires perseverance and an earnest heart. Just as we seek God, we are called to seek understanding and intimacy in our marriages, showing that effort is vital in establishing a strong connection built on trust and love.

  • What barriers prevent me from asking for what I need in my marriage?

  • How can I make my partner feel more valued and understood?

  • What new ways can I seek to communicate better with my spouse?

Pray for openness in your marriage, for both you and your spouse to share needs and desires. Ask God to help you see the ways you can deepen your connection with your partner.
